Your Life on People

Life’s daily motions can be inconvenient and distracting. Junk that happened in the past, present, and future could be affecting your behavior right now. Here are some examples to illustrate my point:

Past: “No! I can’t go out for lunch, because my stupid neighbors kept me up all night.” Present: “I have a headache, so can you please keep your voices down!” Future: “Ugh…I don’t have time in this long line. I have things to do!”

You didn’t have control over happened yesterday, and you’re bummed about it. You have a headache, and you aren’t being taken care of right now. Your plans for the evening are more valuable than those of the other people in line.

In all three of these examples, you mistakenly fault those around you in response to an internal distress that resides elsewhere in time.

So I leave you with this, if people don’t matter, what does? Pause for a moment between the stimulus and reaction and ensure your reaction is in line with your priorities.
